Dear friends and supporters of the appeal campaign to HKFAA and HKTB,

We would very much like to update you with the following:

1.      HKFAA ? Life Achievement Award

Further to the signatures sent in to HKFAA by Japanese fans and Korean fans, our signature cards were sent to HKFAA through a special channel and HKFAA had officially acknowledged receipt.   

In most of the newspapers today, the following was reported:

Manfred Wong, the Chairman of HKFAA said in the press conference yesterday, that HKFAA received numerous requests from many Leslie fans all over the world for the ¨Life Achievement Award〃 to be honored to Leslie.  He remarked that ¨Life Achievement Award〃 is only meant for living artists, therefore, as far as retrospective awards are concerned, no matter Leslie, Anita or Or Sau Leung only ¨appropriate〃 honors will be considered.  Nevertheless, in the coming HKFAA ceremony, there will be a special  tribute for Leslie, Anita, Or Sau Leung and Richard Lam.   

Yet, in Oriental Daily, it said:

Manfred Wong said HKFAA received streams of requests from many Leslie fans for a commemorative award to be given to Leslie in the coming HKFAA ceremony.   The committee will take all the ideas as reference in an effort to come up with an appropriate award for Leslie.  Apart from Leslie, a tribute session will be dedicated to Anita Mui, Or Sau Leung and Richard Lam as well.  

So, seems like there is some difference in the reports.  We will try to find out more and will report in due course.

2.      HKTB ?  Avenue of  Stars

We have collected more than 3,500 signatures and they were brought to HKTB in two batches along with our letter and other supporting material.  Apart from HKTB, letters were brought to authorities of higher rank through a special connection.   Our contact at HKTB told us that HKTB officials were very much impressed by our signature cards and appeal materials, and of course the love from fans towards Leslie.  They are now seriously looking into the matter and a file for Leslie is now in place.  Several meetings have been held in last week at the board level .  Our contact told us that we stand a good chance for what we are requesting.

Please note that HKFAA still has not nominated Leslie for the Avenue of Stars.  

We will update all supporters here as soon as we hear any further word from HKTB.

我们以张国荣先生fans的身份给您写这封信，恳请贵会在2004年的香港金像奖颁奖典礼上能授予张国荣先生“终身成就奖”并且设立特别致敬环节。   

随信奉上的是一份完整的记录，记载了过去二十年来，Leslie对于香港本地及国际电影事业做出的贡献和取得的成就。没有人可以否认张国荣先生是香港演艺史上的一笔文化遗产这样一个事实，而他的成功历程更是努力、坚持、投入的“香港精神”的真实写照。  

Leslie对艺术工作的献身精神和不倦的热情深深的打动了我们。他将其毕生精力奉献于演艺事业，并孜孜不倦的追求着艺术的更高境界，虽然他曾经遭遇了许多的困境。他是一个全能的表演者，他非凡的艺术天赋成就了他作为一个杰出的歌手兼演员的辉煌的艺术生涯。他同时也是一个深谙中西方艺术，并成功地超越文化界限的“艺术家”。他对演艺事业的巨大贡献还反映在他致力于推动和引领新的文化潮流，并为香港本地的娱乐市场打开国际化的新视野。

跨越性别的角色扮演使Leslie获得了广泛的声誉，而他在表演方面无人能出其右的可塑性和高超技巧，受到了众多海外电影评论家的一致赞扬。他作为一个不朽的符号，一个亚洲的超级巨星，为香港人带来了荣誉，并且也提升了中国电影在世界上的地位。他留给我们的文化遗产将是未来电影人的取之不尽的宝贵财富。

韩国的影评人Jeon Chan Il曾评价他是一个杰出的演员，很少有人能够达到他的高度。墨尔本剧作家Peter Kemp认为Leslie将是在世界电影中一个不朽的符号。法国评论家Lorenzo Codelli 和 Hubert Niogret 形容Leslie是最伟大的明星之一，也是中国历史上最优秀的演员之一。香港文化评论家Lam Pui Li （林沛理）称赞Leslie是电影史中最为独特的“演员作者”。

很多香港的评论认为，Leslie的去世标志着一个时代的逝去——香港电影黄金时代的逝去。香港电影和张国荣相互关联，不应该忽略其中一个而分开读解。

Leslie崇高的道德品格也深深的影响着我们。他低调的处事方式，尽力支持慈善事业的行为也为他赢得了我们的尊重。Leslie的成功之路，让我们看到了他积极严谨的生活态度，以及不断进取的高尚人生。

非常遗憾的是，Leslie离开我们的方式被误解成对这个社会有负面影响。然而，人们只要稍微理性的思考一下这个问题，就会发现，真正夺走他生命的不是他的性格弱点，而是他不幸患上的忧郁症。Leslie的离开确实使我们感到非常悲伤，但是一些对他的误解和偏见却带给我们更深的痛苦，虽然这些误解也许可以理解。我们从不同的媒体报道中了解到Leslie患上了忧郁症，事实上，他曾经积极寻求治疗方法并配合治疗，并顽强的与疾病斗争直到生命的最后一刻。

非常不幸的是，Leslie的忧郁症没有得到控制，而他最终离开了我们。这件事情引起了公众对忧郁症的——这个新世纪的重要杀手——的广泛关注。我们深深地感到Leslie与疾病斗争的勇气也应该得到肯定和赞扬。同样，他在演艺事业上贡献和成就，以及他作为一个公众人物的积极影响，不应该被对他疾病的误解所掩盖。

张国荣先生曾经是，以后仍将是，构成香港电影乃至亚洲电影界繁荣景象的无价瑰宝。作为非常欣赏他的影迷，我们希望并且相信我们的呼吁会带来让我们欣慰的结果，而不会是如2003年出现的又一个失望结局。

Dear Mr. Wong,

We are writing in as fans of Mr. Leslie Cheung to appeal for a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Special Tribute to be honoured to him in the Hong Kong Film Award 2004’s ceremony.

Attached please find a complete profile of Leslie’s success and contribution both to the local and international movie industry over the past two decades.  Nobody can deny the fact that Leslie is the legacy of the Hong Kong's entertainment history and his success story had truly reflected the ‘Hong Kong's spirit’ of hard work, perseverance and commitment.   

Leslie had touched our hearts with his dedication and unfailing passion for performing art.  He had devoted his life fully to the show business striving for the pursuit of high-quality art despite he had met with many hardships throughout his career.  He was an all-rounded performer and had sustained a brilliant career as an outstanding singer cum actor with his remarkable artistic talents.  He presented a shining example of a cross-cultural “artist” who was well-versed in both Chinese and Western contemporary art.  His invaluable contributions to the show business were reflected in his dedication and pioneering efforts in setting new trends and directions as well as in opening up new horizons and international outlook in the local mass entertainment market.   

Renowned for his gender-blending roles, Leslie had also been highly credited by numerous overseas film critics for his versatility and mastery in acting that was unparalleled in the local scene.  He had brought glory to the Hong Kong people for being praised as an enduring icon and superstar of Asia and had played an important role in raising the status of Chinese cinema in the international film market.  His cultural legacy is an untapped goldmine for the future generations.

A Korean movie critic Jeon Chan Il had remarked that Leslie was such an outstanding actor, whom only very few have come close to equal.  A Melbourne-based film writer Peter Kemp has considered Leslie as an enduring icon of the world cinema.  French critics, Lorenzo Codelli and Hubert Niogret have described Leslie as one of the greatest stars and one of the best actors of the Chinese empire.  A Hong Kong cultural critic, Lam Pui Li has given credit to Leslie for being the most unique ‘author-actor’ in our movie history.


According to many critics in Hong Kong, Leslie's passing seemed to mark the passing of an era --- the golden era of Hong Kong cinema.  Hong Kong cinema and Leslie Cheung are so intertwined that it is not possible to speak of one without also mentioning the other.   

Leslie had also impressed us as a man of great virtue.  His low-profile disposition and his act of spreading goodwill with acts of charity had gained our respect for him.  We have seen from Leslie's path to success that he had a very serious and positive outlook to life and had led a promising life with dignity.   

It is regrettable that Leslie's means of leaving us was misconstrued as having a negative effect on the society.  However, one just need to conceive further with wisdom and could easily have recognized that it was not character weakness but clinical depression that had taken him away.  Leslie's departure had saddened us but it was the perceivable bias against him that had brought us deep agony.  We have learnt from various media reports that Leslie had suffered from clinical depression, and in fact, he had sought medical advice and treatment and had strived to overcome his illness until his very last moment.   

It was an absolute misfortune that Leslie had not survived because his illness was out of control.  Leslie's case had raised the public awareness of clinical depression – a major killer of this new century.  We deeply feel that Leslie's bravery and courage in combating his illness should also deserve high praise and commendation.  Similarly, his contributions and achievements to the show business and his positive impact as a role model should not be over-ruled by the misconception caused by his illness.’

Mr. Leslie Cheung was, and still is, an invaluable asset who had a hand in shaping Hong Kong as well as Asian cinema's landscape.  With utmost appreciation as his fans, we hope and trust to hear a favorable outcome of this appeal and not another disappointment as shown in the event in 2003.   

Lastly, may we extend our gratitude for your attention in this matter.

【本報訊】梅艷芳雖然已離世，但阿梅的手印可望鋪印在興建中的尖沙咀「星光大道」上，令歌迷影迷永遠懷念。據悉「星光大道」評選組現正聯絡已經結業的Planet Hollywood 餐廳負責人，希望取得阿梅曾在該餐廳留下的手印拓板。

去年四月，阿梅好友張國榮逝世後，一班外地影迷曾去信香港旅遊發展局，希望局方讓張國榮的手印鋪印在尖沙咀海濱長廊的「星光大道」上，令張國榮的痕　永留在世。上月底阿梅病逝，她的一班歌迷同樣想偶像手印在快將於今年第二季開幕的「星光大道」上出現。

電影金像獎協會主席文雋承認，不少歌迷確想將阿梅的手印鋪印在「星光大道」，並趕及成為今年四月第三批的「打手印」名單中，但由於第三批「打手印」名單已經落實，現正與星光大道評選組成員商量。

找尋阿梅生前手印
星光大道評選組成員張同祖則表示，以往從未考慮過讓過世的藝人「打手印」，故評選組現正研究找到阿梅的掌印。他證實，星光大道評選組正聯絡已經結業的Planet Hollywood 餐廳負責人，因為該餐廳曾邀請本港不少歌影紅星「打手印」留念，評選組希望能獲得阿梅留下的手印拓板，令阿梅的手印有機會在「星光大道」出現。

電影金像獎協會副主席莊澄透露，有關阿梅「打手印」一事，要待開會後再作公布，但他強調不會為取手印而「騷擾」遺體。

· 关于为哥哥争取终身成就奖以及星光大道留名的联署活动通告

Gorgor was treated injuriously long since, his contributions on society and charming achievements on art were unacknowledged as well，yet even Gorgor left us.    In reaction to this,  fans in Japan and Korea have been collecting signatures to appeal to the Hong Kong Film Award Association (hereafter referred as HKFAA) for the Life Achievement Award; and Hong Kong Tourism Board (hereafter referred as HKTB) for having Leslie on the "Avenue of Stars".  Now that fans from Japan had collected about 1,000 signatures and Korean fans are starting to do so .

We see the need to pursue this campaign further and on a larger scale.   Therefore, we have drawn up two statements appealing to HKFAA (on the upper part of the page) and HKTB (on the lower part of the page) for fans to sign up for support to this campaign.   Please download  the page of the statements and simply fill in (1) your real full name (not nick name please) as signature for support, (2) the city and country that you are living, (3) your phone number, (4) your e-mail address and (5) date that you sign in your support.   After filling in the details**, please e-mail it back to either Grace Lam at schina@on-nets.com  or Susanna Leung at wfsljf@netvigator.com , in form of a word file attachment.  Please kindly state "APPEALS" as the e-mail title.   

We will print out your returned page on a nice quality paper with colour and will cut the page into two individual cards, one to HKFAA and the other to HKTB.  Upon printing out all the "signed" cards, we will bring them to HKFAA and HKTB along with a full profile of Leslie's achievement and a letter explaining the purpose.  Please kindly understand that this is not a gesture of "begging" the honours for Leslie, but rather, we are just trying to alert the Government and authorities concerned, to make them know that there are people out there watching them.  (for your information:  Ng Sze Yuen will propose to HKFAA to present the "Life Achievement Award" to Or Sau Leung in the coming HKFAA ceremony.)

HKTB has just announced the second batch of stars on the "Avenue of Stars", and thus we expect that the next batch will be revealed one or two months later.  So, there is certain urgency in pursuing this matter.  As such, we would very much appreciate if you could send in your support before January 10, 2004 and that we will be able to bring in the cards to HKFAA and HKTB.   Please also convey this appeal to your fan friends who may not be able to access internet, and be kind to help them to return their support to us as well.   

What we are doing is absolutely necessary to keep Leslie and his wonderful works in the history of the entertainment world in the Chinese communities.   Let's join hands, heart to heart, coast to coast, to make it happen.   This campaign will be simultaneously launched on Leslie Pillow, some Japanese and Korean websites.

不会吧！！！莫名其妙嘛！怎么这样啊？！ 不过还是有点不太相信，这事简直太离谱了！再说香港政府哪有功夫管这档子闲事啊？没道理啊，况且他们也不可能这么无聊吧！个人觉得事情属实的可能性很小，建议在不明真相的情况下，还是不要轻举妄动的好，万一给哥哥的声誉造成了不良的影响，那事情可就真的大了！

哥哥的成就是任何人也抹杀不了的，现在不是几个人可以一手遮天的时代了。我觉得香港政府不会这么做，无论如何哥哥只是个艺术家，何况是为了香港做出了重大贡献的，哥哥本身不带任何政治色彩，他们犯不着对一个艺术家这样做。如果他们这么做，那就说明香港政府真是一个让人失望的政府，而且会激起极大的民愤，不仅我们不会无动于衷，香港人本身也不会允许他们这么做。更何况哥哥的电影，音乐，各方面的艺术成果摆在那里，难道他们要一个个去销毁不成。不过香港政府在哥哥身后的行为确实让人失望，但我想还不足以使他们把哥哥从历史上抹去，何况这是他们想抹也抹不掉的。所以无论如何也要签名，让他们明白明白哥哥在大家的心目中到底是什么地位，还哥哥一个公道。

原因是不是媒体宣传“哥哥的离去是香港一个时代的结束？”导致与政府不甚合拍？哼，生，被误会，死，有人怨。哥哥，你好命苦！算了，没有你，我眼中也没有香港了。只是奇怪，星光大道没有哥哥，香港人民会同意吗？

同意第四楼的分析！！ 况且，现在许多人都知道部分重度抑郁症患者无法控制自己的自杀行为！Leslie的离去决非本意（只要看他一贯的言行即知），所以才会更令人心疼！。无论是他以前的fans，还是“4.1”后新涌现的大批fans，大家都是敬仰Leslie美好的人品，杰出的艺术成就，以及为中国人赢得国际声望，而希望延续他的艺术生命，永久的纪念他。如果政府不理解这些，还对Leslie因病离去的方式“愤慨”，就真正令人为他们的智商吃惊了。如果政府这样做了，可能会引起更多人对他们的“愤慨”。 建议政府看看感人肺腑的Leslie的葬礼，网上纪念馆1百多万人的悼念，铺天盖地的纪念及艺术研究文章，还有几百万的纪念网页，。。。。。。有什么人的去世能令那么多人（尤其是普通老百姓）痛哭悲伤，持续至今呢？难道政府不能代表民心吗？希望能尊重民心！！！

当时看了很震惊，可事后想想也觉那些言辞很主观，不可能的，甚至是很荒唐的。或许发起者只是想引起大家的重视，但可真是把大家吓了一跳。不过终身成就奖和星光大道留名还是要争取的，我们添的表格能为此出力也算有些安慰，看来以后遇事得先动脑啊，尤其不好跟政府开玩笑的。可话说回来，事不关心，关心则乱啊。 哥哥，原谅大家的冲动吧，我们正在成长中

我觉得应该等一等再说，让事实去说明一切，不能因为一时的莽撞而给了那些不喜欢哥哥的以口实，让他们因为歌迷的所做所为而去伤害哥哥！

呃...這是兩件事耶！ 只是不知道為什麼用同一個簽署的格式@_@ 不過,我確定的..是cyberworld上的版主的連署是可以參加的。 至於其他的...請各自判斷吧！ 我不讚成用太冒然的方式去要求一些事..我也相信有些事我們必須去努力！ 但這其中的差別...要我們自己去分辨！ 萬一不敢確定...請詢問大家的看法！

我觉得有必要解释一下這個帖子情况。 在张国荣艺术研究会上发布这个帖子，是希望大家能够为终生成就奖以及星光大道上留名做一点事情。个人认为采取不亢不卑的态度提出作为哥哥fans的一些想法。而且，哥哥在世的时候根本没得到社会对其公正的评价与地位，究其原因有很多，哥哥去世后仍然没有得到社会对其公正的评价与地位，当然这也是有很多个中的原因在。不管是张国荣这个人，还是张国荣在26年演艺生涯中对社会，对文化所做出的贡献以及他的艺术上的成就，至如今一直没有得到社会对其的公正性。我们作为哥哥的fans，只能尽我们的力去做一些事情，去做一些有利于哥哥的事情（当然不同的人有不同的方式去做）。 我最初收到这封英文邮件的时候，我细细的看过，我当时的感觉是我们应该提出这样的联署，结果最终怎么样，我们控制不到，但过程在于我们每个人的手中，我们可以控制，至少让社会看到张国荣的fans并没有因为张国荣的离开而离开，这是一群终身伴随张国荣的fans，他们将会用自己的一生去延续张国荣的精神，去传播张国荣的文化以及艺术魅力。我个人觉得这也是所有真心热爱哥哥的fans应该去做的，当然这只是我的个人想法。而且我深深相信，“张国荣”这个名字，将来会留在历史的文化中，不是因为他传奇的一生，而是因为他对社会所做出的贡献以及他的艺术作品的生命力。 对于这次的活动，我个人的想法就刚才所说得很简单，用我们的力量去做一些事情，不管怎么样，至少这样的联署，会让社会看到一些过程。但在于最终的递呈给两个机构的文件上，我已经发邮件给发起活动的哥哥fans，说出我个人的一些想法，希望能够用不亢不卑的态度以及相对温和的语言。 张国荣艺术研究会网站作为一个网络载体，发布这样一个公告，是希望大家能够看到这样的一个活动，然后一起来为哥哥尽一点微薄的力量，每个人的力量再大也是微薄的，但团结的力量……我相信我们小时候在课堂上也学过的，就不说了，免得以后有人抨击我说话文绉绉，呵呵；-） 就此。
